All participants met at the QCU at South Brisbane for their induction and introduction to the QCU and the project we are about to embark on.
We met female officers and organisers of the QCU as well as fellow participants in the project from other unions.
- ASMP facilitator Michelle Rae from the MEAA (Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance)
- Sharon Durham, Industrial Advocate, QCU, who gave us an overview of current industrial issues such as the Fair Work Act etc.
Little lunch was provided for networking with other ASMP participants.
Big lunch was an opportunity to meet with our host union contacts and prepare for what we might experience in week 2 which will be very different to our normal work expectations or settings. (Not know as a morning person, Meegan starts at 7am! Not known as a late night person, Paula will return from the mines in the evening!)
We were then met by Leah Mertens, the QTU Women's Officer who brought us to the QTU building to introduce us to staff and tour the building, ready for our week of experience with the QTU. This included attending the executive meeting from 4.30-6.30pm (Meegan is already a member of executive but this was a new experience for Paula).
A great first insight into the QTU, it's staff, officers and roles - it's great to know how effectively members are being supported by a fantastic team!
